How To Clean Your Air Conditioner Condenser:

It is best to clean your air conditioner condenser on a day that is at least 60 degrees, as that is about the minimum temperature that you can test your air conditioner to ensure function. First, turn off the power to the condenser unit at the outdoor shutoff. If you are uncertain about which shutoff it is, turn of the power to the AC at the main electrical panel.

Next, you will want to vacuum away any debris (leaves, grass clippings, etc.) with a Shop Vac. Any grass or weeds within 2 feet of the condenser should be cleared away.

Carefully, you will want to straighten the bent or crushed fins of the condenser with a butter knife. Be sure to use gentle pressure and not to insert the knife more than 1/2 in.

Then you will want to remove the fan. First, unscrew the top grille. Lift the fan out, gently setting it aside. Pull out any leaves or debris and wipe the interior surface clean with a damp cloth.

Finally, clean the fins using moderate pressure from a hose nozzle. Be sure to direct the spray from the inside out. After a few minutes of drying, reinstall the fan.
