It’s hard to believe that the year is almost over. At D&D, we believe that a new year equates to new goals. One of your goals for 2016 should be avoiding clogs in your home by using these preventative measures. We have just the steps for you!

Toss The Fat

Never, ever, EVER dispose of grease, particularly animal fats, down your drain. We highly recommend skimming the fat and tossing it into the trashcan or into a grease collection bin (think of Grandma’s old coffee can under the sink!). When grease goes down pipes, it coats them in a film which can cause massive clogs.

Screen It Off

Purchasing metal covers for your drains can prevent things from going down into your pipes. Buying inexpensive mesh drain covers (like these from Amazon) can keep things like potato peels, bones, or other no-no’s from getting into your drains and causing clogs.

D&D can definitely help! Think of your pipes and drains as your home’s “arteries”, particularly in older houses. After many years, build-up can accumulate in those pipes. D&D offers a service to help clean out accumulated debris in order to maintain the pipe’s longevity. Contact us to find out more!

Go Natural

Many cleaning products can also be harsh on your home’s drains and pipes. Using natural choices, such as white vinegar, baking soda, and hot water, are better choices to help maintain the quality of your home’s plumbing. Vinegar helps reduce odors, baking soda provides cleaning power, and hot water works to help sterilize germs. Not only are these items natural, they’re also inexpensive!

D&D certainly hopes we’ve been able to give you some additional information about ways to keep your drains and pipes clog-free. We’re here if you need us to lend a professional hand in maintaining the plumbing in your home or business. D&D would also like to wish you a safe and happy (early) new year! We’re excited to see what 2016 will bring!
