D&D encourages you to add insulation to regulate your home’s temperatures. It isn’t a “visible” home improvement project. You won’t get oooh’s and ahhh’s over the finished product, but you WILL see a savings on your monthly utility bills and that will make a difference.

Where Should I Add Insulation?

There are several places which should definitely be insulated to help regulate your home’s internal temperature. Some of the top choices include:

  • Unfinished Attic Space – Attic space is notoriously cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Not surprisingly, a home’s temperature can be significantly impacted by how hot or cold the attic space is. By adding more insulation, you will notice a remarkable difference in the temperature. The heating or A/C unit will not have to work as hard to maintain set temperatures if your attic is properly insulated.
  • Crawlspaces – Just like attics, but beneath your home. These uninsulated areas can cause floors to be cooler or warmer than necessary…that alone can create extra work for your furnace and condenser units.
  • Exterior Walls – Have you ever noticed one room in your home is warmer than the others? This could be due to poor exterior wall insulation. The majority of the homes in West Texas are made of brick, which can hold in heat. This warms the interior walls if there isn’t enough insulation between the brick outside and the drywall inside.
  • Duct Systems – Your home’s ventilation system needs to be insulated, too! Ductwork, particularly those located in unfinished spaces like attics, need to have insulation added to prevent excessive exposure to extreme temperatures. This increases their longevity.

What Kind Do I Need..And How Much?

D&D hires professional HVAC employees who are familiar with proper ventilation and insulation techniques. We use Guardian fiberglass insulation to help keep your home’s temperature regulated, which comes in a variety of forms and gradients for insulation. We carefully measure the size of your home to make sure we install the right amount to suit your needs.

  • Batts & Rolls – Fiberglass batts are the long, rolled rectangles of insulation. This type of insulation requires time, patience, and attention to detail in order to ensure proper installation.
  • Loose-fill – Think of this type as one big blanket of insulation. There are no seams like there are with rolls & batts, so you know the coverage area is seamless.

D&D is here to answer any questions you may have about insulation. As we said before, it might not be granite countertops or new flooring, but insulation can definitely make a significant difference in your home. And who doesn’t like to have cheaper utility bills?
