Your house is hot, but your air conditioner is on. You’re tired of spending money to cool your house for it to be cooler outside…
What gives?
More than likely, you’re experiencing one, of many, common air conditioner problems. Find out more information about these common air conditioner problems and what you can do make your house cool again!
Improper Maintenance
Your air conditioner unit will not work properly without frequent maintenance. Fans, coils, and/or your compressor may fail prematurely without proper maintenance. Make sure your replace your filter at least once a month for maximum air conditioner efficiency. To find out more about How To Choose A Filter.
Electric Control Failure
When a system is oversized, or when the unit turns on and off frequently, the compressor and fan controls wear out. Since this problem may deal with corrosion of wire and terminals, it is best to be checked out by a professional.
Refrigerant Leaks
Believe it or not, adding refrigerant to a leaky unit does not fix a leak. In fact, refrigerant leaks can even be harmful to the environment. A trained technician should fix any leak and replace the system with the correct amount of refrigerant (for maximum efficiency, the refrigerant should exactly match the manufacturer’s specification.)
Sensor Problems
Thermostat sensors measure the temperature of air coming into the evaporative coil. If this sensor gets knocked out of position, the unit could cycle constantly or operate erratically. You can adjust the position of the sensor by carefully bending the wire that holds it in place. Make sure the sensor is near the coil, but not touching the coil.
