Why Is My Garbage Disposal Leaking?

Disposals leak sometimes, and it’s no wonder when you consider all of the stuff that goes down the drain. A leaking garbage disposal can lead to costly repairs and here we’re going to tell you what causes a disposal to leak, so you can hopefully avoid this unfortunate event from happening.

Cracked Disposal

A disposal is leak is often caused by a cracked disposal unit. Hard foods or something that unintentionally went down the disposal could cause the body to crack.

Dishwasher Connection

Is the problem your dishwasher? Maybe not! In some cases the disposal is connected to the drain of the dishwasher. If this connection has become loose, a leak can occur.

Discharge Pipe

Wear and tear on your disposal can cause damage to the discharge pipe (located on the bottom of the disposal and connects to the drain of your sink) as well as the flange and seal to which its connected.
