Weather you like the cool weather or not, it is here to stay! Here are some easy ways to save you on your heating bill!

Turn down the thermostat.  The lower you turn your thermostat, the most you save. Did you know that you can save up to 3% for every degree to turn it down? So, when you leave for the day try and turn the thermostat down. No need to heat your house when you aren’t there. We suggest as much as 10 degrees. Also, turn down the thermostat when you are sleeping. This will also save you huge in the long run and save you in your heating bill.

One way to control your heating automatically is to purchase a programmable thermostat; you can set it and forget it.  You will be able to program it for each day of the week, including the weekends, to keep those temps where they should be.

Contact D&D for the best programmable thermostats and installation.

Winterize your windows.  Now that summer has passed, there’s no need to open your windows. One way to keep the heat from escaping is purchase plastic film to help seal shut those drafty windows. It may not look great, but it will save you!

Use your fan.  Switch the way your fan blows forcing the hot air down into your room.  This is an easy way to help push that warm air back down into your room.

Keep your curtains closed.  Curtains are a great way to keep the warm air in your home as well as keeping the cold air out. Keeping warm air in means less use of your furnace.

Caulk your windows and doors.  Make sure that you check the caulk while the weather is warm.  Adding a new layer and/or removing worn out or cracked caulk can help keep the heat in and the cold out.

Keep the vents open and unblocked.  Make sure that you do not have furniture and/or blankets in front of your vents.  You want to make sure that the air can circulate in the room.

Service your furnace or heater.  It is important to have an annual service completed on your heating unit not only for safety, but also efficiency. If your unit is not working properly, you can end up paying more in heating your home.  Make sure you also clean or replace your filter at this same time!
