Valentine’s Day has already come and gone, which means a couple things: candy and flowers can be purchased at extreme discounts and women everywhere are proudly sporting brand new bling from that special someone. We’ve all heard that jewelry is the way to a woman’s heart, and in a lot of cases, this seems to be true. A woman’s worst nightmare is to drop a beloved jewelry piece down the sink drain, until now! Here we’ll discuss the steps to retrieve your jewelry from the sink drain, so even if your favorite jewelry piece barrels down the drain to the unknown, it’s not goodbye forever!
- Locate the shut off valves under the sink for hot and cold and turn them clockwise to turn off the water supply.
- Now find the U-shaped pipe under the sink, also known as the P-trap.
- Clear the area and place a bucket underneath the P-trap to catch anything and everything coming out to avoid a mess.
- Does your trap have a drain plug? If so, loosen the plug to release water in the trap.
- If necessary, use a set of pliers or a wrench to loosen the two slip nuts on either end of the P-trap, turning them in a counterclockwise motion.
- Dump out excess water and your item should come out right along with it!
- Sifting may be necessary, so gloves are a must!
- Retrieve your lost object and remove any left-behind gunk to make your jewelry shine once again.
- Replace the P-trap, retighten the slip nuts, and turn water supply back on.
- Consider the possibility of adding a strainer to catch future drops, or simply place your valuables out of drain range to avoid other mishaps.
