Living in West Texas, your air conditioner is probably your favorite major appliance. However, those big, chunky outdoor units can be an eyesore…but you have to have them!
Did you know there are ways to camouflage your air conditioning unit? It’s true! Take a look!
(Remember that your air conditioner has to have space in order to function, so keep this in mind when adding any sort of cover or obstruction near your unit. To be safe, check the manufacturer’s recommended distances for any kind of enclosure you consider.)
Ways To Camouflage Your Air Conditioning Unit:
1. Add A Screen-A plant screen is an inexpensive way to hide your AC unit. Consider a trellis or other decorative yard screen to cover your air conditioner (leave access to it from behind). Additionally, you could grow a climbing plant (think a vine or ivy) to grow on your screen, concealing your unit even more.
2. Pool Pump Enclosure-Most people don’t think about it, but enclosures made for pool pumps can be easily modified to fit the size needed for an air conditioner. Just be sure that it is well-ventilated!
3. Fence It In-One of the easiest ways to camouflage your air conditioning unit is to fence it in! Depending on the size of your unit, you can either purchase a pre-made fence or build one yourself. To hide it even further, consider painting the fence its background color (for example, if your unit backs up to your gray house, paint the fence gray).
4. Distract-To hide a bulky AC unit, direct the eye to another area of the yard using paths and flower beds. Guide the view along a path towards the other side of the yard, distracting the eye from the unit itself.
No matter how you choose to hide your AC, be sure to do it safely (don’t forget to refer to those manuals). For all your other AC needs, don’t forget to call us…”Midland’s Favorite,” D&D Plumbing!
