Did you know that the busiest day of the year for plumbers isn’t Super Bowl Sunday, isn’t Christmas, IT’S THANKSGIVING.

Why you ask? The garbage disposal stops working, sinks get clogged, and dishwasher have mishaps. But there’s good news! Being prepared can save you a phone call to your local plumber. Learn how to avoid these Thanksgiving disaster so you can sit down and have a stress free holiday. Replace aging appliances In weeks leading up to the holidays, check your appliances to insure they are working correctly. Check out these life expectancies to compare to the appliances in your home: Gas ranges: 15 years Range hoods: 14 years Refrigerators and electric ranges: 13 years Garbage disposers: 12 years Freezers: 11 years Dishwashers: 9 years Microwave ovens: 9 years Compactors: 6 years Your oven is the spotlight Clean the bog guy in and out to insure everything is working properly. Run the cleaning cycle at least a week before because this can cause the appliance stress. Make sure the temperature gauge is working correctly (wouldn’t want any burned potatoes!) Do the basics Once you have determined that everything is going to be working correctly. Go through with a basic cleaning and maintenance. Empty out that refrigerator and freezer for more room. REMEMBER you will have plenty of food both before and after, so make sure to throw anything you don’t need in the trash! The microwave may need some food scrubbed off the sides. And the dishwasher may need a clean run through. Stock up on the basics Here is a list of what we would consider

  • Garbage bags
  • Plastic bags
  • Aluminum foil
  • Plastic wrap
  • Containers
  • Dish Soap
  • Dishwashing detergent
  • Batteries
  • Plenty to paper towels

Prepare your home Make sure you have enough furniture for everyone. Also, it can get a little congested with everyone in the same space. Clear out some furniture you may not need and place it in storage, or in the garage to enable more space to move around.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!

If the inevitable happens, we would be more than happy to help you out. Give us call!
