Why Isn’t My Air Conditioner Blowing Cool Air?

If there is air coming out of your supply vents there are a couple of steps you can take (if there is no air coming out of the vents, look below):

  • Make sure the fan setting is set to “auto” and not “on.” Having it “on” will cause your air conditioner to blow air even if it’s not being cooled.
  • Your air filter may need to be changed. A dirty air filter blocks airflow to the air handler.
  • Clean your outside unit. If the unit is dirty or covered by something, it needs to be cleared of any and all obstructions.
  • You may be low on refrigerant. Usually, this is caused by a refrigerant leak, which you’ll need our help with!

If there is not air coming from your vents, try these steps:

  • Check the air filter. If the filter is dirty, it will blow the airflow.
  • Change the thermostat temperature. The temperature should be set at least 5 degrees below the temperature of your room.
  • Set the thermostat to “cool.” If it is “off” or on “heat” you could be experiencing problems.
  • Check electricity. Ensure that there is electricity being supplied to your air conditioner by making sure switches are “on” to the compressor, the air handler, and circuit breakers.
